Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts to gain mainstream fame were disastrous. Before new material was released the two major labels signed but then removed Perry. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 and it was greeted with moderate success for the title track. I Kissed a Girl, a confident song about her sexual inclinations that is set to a gritty electronic-pop beat, made a bigger splash several months after. I Kissed a Girls was an immediate hit, however the song quickly caused controversy. Some critics claimed that the song promoted same-sex sexual relations and others felt that the story the song depicted attracted more male fantasies. The combination of excitement, a polished tune and a catchy tune helped it become a top-ten hit in a variety of countries. This led to the album One of the Boys (2007) being a big success. The sharp and bouncey second track was popular. The album that Perry created in large portion was sold to over 3 million people.
